His syndicated strip, which debuted in 1960 as The Family Circle, now appears in over 1,500 publications nationwide. Jeff Keane, who has been helping his dad with inking and coloring, said the cartoonist died of congestive heart failure. “We are, in the comics, the last frontier of good, wholesome family humor and entertainment,” Keane said in a 1995 interview. “On radio and television, magazines and the movies, you can’t tell what you’re going to get. When you look at the comic page, you can usually depend on something acceptable by the entire family.” [ap.] After killing millions, Bill Keane finally bored himself to death.
